Michael Ursu, also known as "Maku" to his close friends, is an actor, musician, composer, voice actor, and sound engineer living in Los Angeles. He's worked with brands such as Fender and Yamaha Guitars, and has starred in several pilots, shorts, and features. Born and raised in Queens, Michael came out to LA to study composition at Occidental College, but fell in love with being in front of the camera instead of behind it. Maku is a SAG-E actor.
"What made me pick up the guitar? Seeing a grunge-y haired man with a striped sweater at the age of 6 in Romania on MTV, that's what. That guy was Kurt Cobain. My mom told me I picked up a tennis racket and started to play on it like he did on his guitar. *laughs* I learned piano in college thanks to Bach, and after seeing one of my ol' bandmates in a picture on set with Seth Rogen, I thought to myself, 'Man, I could do that too.' So I started composing and acting in my free time. On set, sometimes I'd find a crew member who needed a composer - it occurred to me then I could give it a shot, at this double career thing." Besides walking his beautiful yellow lab Simba, Maku likes to hit the waves in El Porto and enjoys playing Nintendo Switch in his wonderful WeHo apartment. |
